Re: Team for Aston Villa - Premier League
Its getting more difficult to pick the best team which is a good sign?. IMO Johnson keeps the right back slot and is now first choice based on form but he has played a lot of games and in the modern game its about squads and rotation especially while we are in all competitions . But with Coufal only just coming back and Fredericks also without many minutes after returning from injury I opt to stick with Johnson and he's young and can handle it?. Cresswell at 31 has been playing as many games. Not so sure about him in that sense but we don't really have any other options and a player who I thought was on the decline not so long back, is now arguably our most creative player so has to play.

The only other position for debate is goalkeeper. Nips was excellent last night but Moyes will almost certainly revert to Fab.

……………………Fabianski

Johnson…..Zouma…..Ogbonna…..Cresswell

Bowen…..Rice…..Soucek…..Fornals

……………………Benrahma

……………………Antonio

Re: Team for Aston Villa - Premier League
Johnson is quicker than Coufal ,Coufal a bot more intelligent in his defending. Will opt for him against Liverpool and maybe even Ashby against Genk. Fredericks has been missing from the squad from the last 2 games. However I wouldn't have Yarmo in against Genk, who ever plays right back has to much to do.Bowen can start there instead.

Johnson is first choice based on form!!!!!
Coufal is the best right back in the league and comes back in now he is fit and played some minutes on Wednesday.
Johnson has done well defensively but to progress he needs to develop the attacking side of his game.
He can do that watching Coufal whose attacking movement we have missed.

Re: Team for Aston Villa - Premier League
The only real debates are Johnson or Coufal and Fornals or Arthur.

Right now Johnson has played very well and deserves to keep his place. It might also to Coufal some good mentally to have a few weeks on the Bench, get his mojo back after a couple of ordinary games.

It would be very very tough to drop Fornals but Arthur adds a different dimension down the left. Interchanging those two when we need to change things up if we need a goal is a great prospect.

Re: Team for Aston Villa - Premier League
Coufal and Fornals are vastly superior players for me.
If I was Moyes and one of my coaching staff told me that Arthur should displace Fornals I'd have them marched off the premises.

Let’s not forget that Masuaku should be playing for Man City.

Others have done well and it’s great to have options, but let’s be honest there’s not anyone there you could drop based on achievements so far this season, either individually or collectively - Coufal on fitness perhaps if necessary, and as I’ve said before and others have said here Fabianski is the man in possession of the first team shirt and unless he does something wrong then it’s his.

Maybe we will see the back 5 again at some point (Liverpool?) if Masuaku is really rehabilitated, meaning one of the attackers - probably Benrahma - drops to the bench for another centre half (probably Diop as I’m not sure Dawson is mobile enough for a 5). But I’m still not convinced that Moyes really trusts Masuaku and I can’t blame him for that.

Yarmolenko probably makes it onto the bench purely due to the lack of any strikers to take a spot - but anyone suggesting he starts needs a serious psychiatric review.

Just in case anyone has been wondering where I have got to, I've been in a bad way with Covid, in hospital just now, so really not up to much.

A lot on here were calling Johnson shit a week or two back. He's proved those idiots wrong but I expect Coufal to start, as well as Fabs.

Shit, get well soon Exile.
I hope you posting shows your over the worst of it. Look forward to the return of some decent team threads.

Almost can’t be bothered, but obviously it’ll be:

Fabianski
Coufal Zouma Ogbonna Cresswell
Rice Soucek
Bowen Benrahma Fornals
Antonio

Main question being if Coufal comes back in for Johnson.

Last season was worse, I got roundly cunted off for sticking up for Johnson when some knobheads on here had completely written him off, for having a bad game, at LEFT BACK. The lad is quality.

I would personally go back to our first 11, all of others have done well but I still think the first team picks itself.

Fabianski
Coufal Zouma Ogbonna Cresswell
Rice Soucek
Bowen Benrahma Fornals
Antonio

Get well soon exile

Johnson has been great even though a certain poster called him shit and league 2 level at best

But as others have said Coufal gives us more balance going forward, so if fit he plays for me.

As good as Johnson has been, if Vlad is fit, Vlad plays!

After his performance the other night I would play Aerola but, I think Moyes will bring back Fabianski. Yarmolenko.....really?

Lertie Button 4:49 Fri Oct 29
Re: Team for Aston Villa - Premier League
No way back for Rice, Noble must keep his place.
(Just kidding)
The first team picks itself so no Johnson, Areola or Yarmolenko if everyone is fit

Not saying this is how we’ll line up but if Coufal is fit to start, I’d consider

…….Coufal ……..Soucek…….Rice

………Benrahma ………..Fornals

Get well Exile. Its a bugger this COVID even after having jabs :-(

Opinions as always, and I think Johnson keeps the shirt as his reward for playing so well in the last 4or so games. I had him only behind Rice and Nips in terms of his performance last 2 games. And it would be good for Coufal to get to full match fitness over a few games.

But we shall soon this Sunday what Moyes thinks :-)

Get well ASAP exile, you are missed.

Anyone suggesting Masuaku on the bench or in the team needs adjustung in the head.
Juat watch his efforts the other night, the 2 chances he had were actually crosses but ended up shots.

I would keep Johnson in and have Coufal come on,
He doesn't need to be rushed in.
I wouldn't mind as Pickle has suggested him in midfield to help Rice and Soucek should we need it. It doesn't have to be defensive as Coufal can attack too.Brought on to add a different solution.

I thought it was most on here that thought Fredericks and Masuaku were better options at right back or left back.
Pity though as I reckon Ashby is even better than all 3 mentioned, plus is a great dead ball specialist.
